Whilst cruising the net, looking for... well, looking for whatever was available, I sort of stumbled on some really decent sounding MIDI files. And being sort of a packrat, I kinda collected them. Some of them didn't sound just right to me, so I re-sequenced them a bit till they suited my taste and the way my sound card reproduces them. Others, I just left as I found them.
NOTE: I have removed the auto start function on all the MIDI files embedded in these pages. Press the start button if you want to listen to them.
ANOTHER DISCLAIMER:
All of these files are believed to be in the public domain. If you know of any that are not, I will remove them.
I also have a confession to make. On one of my web surfing expeditions,
I ran across a shareware program that converts MIDI files to WAV files
as they play. I know I list Crescendo as the Plug-in of choice for Netscape,
but you may wish to try Wingroove for midi files, particularly if you don't
have a wavetable soundcard. On the downside, the software is VERY
CPU intensive. I'm using a Pentium 100, and on some files, CPU usage runs
to 100%. Also, some of the MIDI's don't come off as well in WAV format.
but some of them are truly AWESOME!!! Wingroove is available from
Hiroki Nakayama who is also the author of the program. His homepage (in
english) is at http://www.cc.rim.or.jp/~hiroki/english/index.html (Link opens in new window)
But remember, this IS shareware, the man worked hard on it and would
really like to get something for his efforts. So please don't be
a cheapskate. If you use it, register it. The files I think come off particularly
well with Wingroove are marked with an Icon like this
.
You might have different opinions, so try it both ways and use your own
judgment.
Update: I've finally installed a wavetable soundcard in my computer so Wingroove doesn't do anything any more.
Also, since I can no longer hear MIDI's in the "beep-squeak" mode, I can't tell if the MIDI's I'm adding recently sound good that way or not. In other words...
These are the files I have posted... As to how your computer reproduces them, you're on your own
So, with that out of the way... let's press on.
